Rowland John from Swansea is revved with success after finding his way back into work with the support of TBG Learning.
Rowland, from the Treboeth area of the city, had been unemployed for two years before being referred to TBG Learning on the Work Programme. He was introduced to in-work adviser, Gregson Davies, who quickly identified an opportunity at the local franchise operation of Shell.
Following a successful interview with franchise manager, Candy Hollinson, Rowland started work as an assisted service operative.
58 year old Rowland said: “I had been out of work for a couple of years and approached TBG Learning through the Jobcentre.
“They provided me with support to update my computer skills and also identified various local opportunities that suited my skills. Gregson at TBG Learning was brilliant as he provided me with the assistance I needed and put me in contact with prospective employers.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying my new job and would like to take this opportunity to thank the TBG Learning team for their support.”
Candy, franchise manager at Shell, added: “I employ around 50 team members across four sites in Swansea and had an existing relationship with TBG Learning, due to previous recruitment drives where we used their expertise.
“Shell introduced forecourt assistants, responsible for refuelling customers’ cars and checking tyres, in January so our staffing requirements had increased. Following an initial approach from Gregson we were pleased to interview Rowland and subsequently offer him a full-time position.
“We’ve been really pleased with Rowland. He’s very articulate and we’ve had some really positive feedback from our customers via the Shell Feedback System.
“I think it’s important that more businesses use services such as those offered by TBG Learning as it can really aid them in their search for suitable applicants to fill vacant positions.
“With unemployment high, it’s important to know that the individuals you are interviewing are of a good calibre and want to work. This is something that TBG Learning can really assist with.
“Shell believes in creating new, local employment opportunities and supporting the aspirations of existing staff. We are really pleased to have Rowland on board.”
TBG Learning is delivering the government’s flagship Work programme on behalf of JobFit, which helps the long-term unemployed into work through a tailored package of support and assistance.
Gregson from TBG Learning Swansea said that after being out of work for two years and at the age of 58, Rowland was starting to feel that employment opportunities were narrowing for him.
“Rowland has been successful in securing long-term employment at Shell and has received really positive feedback from customers, which is testament to his ability to adapt to change and seize the opportunities available to him.
“It also demonstrates that with the right kind of support and advice employment opportunities are available to the right candidate. It’s about matching that person with the correct job.
“We wish Rowland every success for the future.”
